  • SELECTING A SCOOTER OR BALANCE BIKE
    • How to choose a scooter for adults?

The way to the ideal scooter that perfectly meets your needs leads through getting a few basic things straight.

      Do you want to ride:

      • on short or long journeys?
      • on asphalt or off road?
      • in the nature or in town?
      • for fitness, sports, or just for fun and the joy of movement?

      Note:
As you can see from the questions, choosing a scooter is not about matching the height of your body with the size of the machine, but rather about matching the parameters of the scooter with the purpose of its use.

For example, sports scooters designed for fast riding on asphalt are lightweight, hold the track well and have low tread height so you can race with the wind.

City scooters, on the other hand, are designed to be agile, maneuverable, easy to store and to allow you to easily zigzag through the urban jungle.

Our Selection Guide will guide you through the decision-making process in greater detail.

We also discuss how to choose the ideal scooter for you in the article How to choose a scooter for adults.

Test the scooter before you buy one

    • How to choose a scooter for children?

When selecting a scooter, mainly the height of the child should guide you, but take into account the child’s physical ability and physique as well.

A more able individual will be able to manage even a larger scooter, which will no doubt last him longer, too. A more delicate child will feel better on a smaller scooter, which it will be able to handle more easily.

The minimum rider height is listed on the website for each scooter. For broad orientation, you will also find the age of the child there.

We discuss this topic in more detail in the article on How to choose a scooter for children.

    • How to choose a balance bike?

Balance bikes are generally intended for children from the age of 18 months to approximately 4.5 years. The best way to tell if your child has grown enough to use a balance bike is to compare the length of the inside of your child’s leg with the height of the seat. This ranges from 29-43 cm (YooToo) and 30-41 cm (TooToo and OneToo) for Yedoo balance bikes.

We cover this topic in detail on our blog.

    • What are the differences between balance bikes?
      • YooToo is our premium balance bike – it features an aluminium frame and low weight (3.4 kg), a headset with a steering limiter against oversteer and (thanks to the double rear fork) a wide range of seat height adjustment (29-43 cm). There are reflective elements on the handlebar and both wheels.
      • The TooToo has a steel frame without a double rear fork, but the components including the headset and steering limiters against oversteer are identical with the YooToo. Thanks to the aluminium handlebar, we kept the weight down to 3.7 kg, seat height 30-41 cm + lots of colours to choose from.
      • The OneToo is a more economical version of previous models, with a steel frame and headset without steering limiters against oversteer and wheels without reflective elements. Weight 3.8 kg, seat height 30-41 cm.

We discuss our balance bike in detail in the article OOPS.

    • What are the differences between the Alloy, Steel, RunRun and Numbers scooter series?

      Yedoo Alloy

    • Are disc brakes or V-brakes better?

Both types of brakes have their advantages and disadvantages. Rim or V-brakes are popular among recreational riders and athletes, who mainly ride on the road, due to their easy maintenance and light weight.

Disc brakes are suitable for off-road riding, heavier riders and adventurers, who go out in any weather and need stable brake effect regardless of wet ground, mud and steep descents. We offer several models with disc brakes: Yedoo Trexx Disc, Yedoo S2016 Disc, Yedoo Mezeq.

Pros and cons of disc brakes

+ quick onset of the brake effect

+ smooth transfer of braking power

+ excellent functioning in any weather – wet, muddy or snowy

+ when braking, it is not the rims but the discs that heat up (therefore you do not need to reduce pressure in the tyres before going downhill to prevent them from exploding from the heat of the rims).

      - greater weight

      - susceptibility to side impact – they are easily misaligned

      - they require professional mounting an adjusting

      - higher price

      Rim/ V-brakes

      + lower weight

      + lower price

+ easy maintenance and simpler servicing, which many can do on their own without special tools

      - lower brake effect especially in wet conditions, on fallen leaves and mud

      - the rims heat up when braking

      - brake shoes wear out over time and need to be replaced

    • I’m taller, do you have a scooter for me?

Absolutely. All our scooters have adjustable handlebar height, which together with the space for the rider will be the most important criterion for you when choosing a scooter.

Scooters with threaded headsets combined with Yedoo BMX handlebar have the greatest range of handlebar height adjustment. The handlebar can also be tilted forward to increase rider space.

People of taller stature also like sports scooter models, which are generally larger and therefore have more space for the rider. These are scooters with an A-head (no-thread) headset with 26/20, 28/20 and 28/28-inch wheels.

The handlebar height of these models is adjustable to a smaller extent, by means of clamping rings or by turning the stem, see video basic scooter assembly. The space for the rider can also be additionally increased by replacing the stem with a longer and steeper one. For specific tips on longer stems, email info@yedoo.eu.

    • Do you offer foldable scooters as well?

Unfortunately, we do not offer foldable scooters yet. If you are looking for compact scooters, check out our scooters for the city, which can fit almost anywhere – in the lift, in the boot of your car and in your busy schedule.

       How about:

  • SCOOTERING TECHNIQUE
    • Why ride a scooter?

There are many reasons to ride a scooter. It is an experience – a moment when you can put your worries behind you, fully indulge in movement and let your body and psyche relax to the regular rhythm of feet pushing off.

Moreover, riding a scooter stretches your whole body and engages all your muscle groups – a scooter is a great way to compensate for a sedentary job and a way to keep fit without effort and without having to force yourself.

Anyone can learn to ride a scooter, a small child, an adult or a senior, who often no longer dares to ride a bike.

Check out our short video Introduction to the world of cycling or eight reasons to ride a scooter.

    • How to ride a scooter correctly?

Scootering is an utterly healthy kind of movement that involves the entire body – from the feet to the shoulders and the head. It is important to maintain a posture that activates the abdominal muscles, to change legs regularly and to work correctly with the foot of the kicking leg.

We cover the correct riding technique in detail on our blog.

    • How to set up a balance bike correctly and how to ride it?

It is important to set up the height of the seat and handlebar so that the child would sit upright, have slightly bent knees and both feet fully on the ground.

The push-off should be performed using the classic rolling mechanism similar to walking – over the heel, the outer edge of the foot and toes. The feet turn neither outward nor inward, remaining in parallel position.

Also, encourage your children to push off alternating the feet, not with both feet at the same time.

We discuss this topic in more detail in this article.

    • Which foot is the pushing foot on the scooter?

On a scooter we push off with BOTH feet. 😊

Riding a scooter is not rocket science, but you can’t do it without changing legs regularly.

Any scooterer with at least a little experience has already felt that the leg standing on the footboard gets tired soon. With each push-off, it goes into a slight squat (how big depends on the height of the footboard above the ground) and sooner or later it will call to be replaced.

Alternating legs is really important, among other things, to evenly load both sides of the body, build stability, have a healthy back and a straight spine.

On flat ground it is ideal to change legs after every 5th to 6th push-off, when going uphill it is sooner – even after three or four, depending on your fitness and the gradient of the climb.

Switching is done by shifting the weight of the supporting leg onto the heel and turning the tip to the side (the right one to the right, the left one to the left). You place the tip of the free foot in the vacated place, transfer your weight onto it, thus releasing the supporting leg, which fluently continues into push-off.

We go into detail about changing legs in the article on Scootering Technique.

You can read about why and how to build stability here.

    • What are the rules for a scooter in road traffic? Do I need to wear a helmet?

If you take your scooter out on the road, you are a road user and, like cyclists, you must follow the rules laid down in the decree.

Every rider under the age of 18 is required to wear a helmet while riding. For adults, wearing a helmet is still optional, but we recommend it for everyone.

Traffic rules also define compulsory equipment such as front white and rear red lights, closed handlebar ends and so on. Traffic rules in the Czech Republic are discussed in more detail in this blog article.

Note: People on scooters are considered cyclists and are therefore subject to the same rules as people on bicycles.

  • ACCESSORIES AND TUNING
    • Do you also do custom scooter conversions and tuning?

We not only design and manufacture scooters with enthusiasm, but also constantly improve and experiment with their modifications and equipment.

We will be happy to customize your scooter, not only to suit your riding style, but also your body, taste and finances. We can also smarten up balance bikes for the smallest riders.

You can contact our experts at Yedoo Garage Prague directly via e-mail: garage@yedoo.eu.

    • Do you convert scooters to electric?

As advocates and promoters of healthy movement, which brings not only joy to life, but also greater physical and mental fitness, we do not deal with rebuilds or additional electric motors.

However, we can refer you to Evbike, a company dedicated to converting scooters to electric. The conversion usually involves replacing the front fork (74 mm) with another fork with a larger 100 mm spacing.

    • What carriers and bags do you recommend for travel scooters?

Based on our own experience, we recommend the following carriers:

      Tubus Disco 26"

For travel scooters with a 26" front wheel, such as the Yedoo Trexx, Yedoo S2620 and Yedoo Five, we find the Tubus Disco 26" carrier the most useful, which we mount on your scooter using a special mount (developed by us).

We can also supply you with high-quality Ortlieb bags, which we have tested and which fit the carrier perfectly.

To order the carrier, its assembly and, if necessary, the bag, please contact us via Yedoo Garage Praha at garage@yedoo.eu, where we tune and rebuild scooters and sell accessories, too.

Note: This service is only available in the Czech Republic.

      AL (20"-28")

For scooters with a 26" front wheel and V-brakes, the AL universal front carrier (20"-28") is also suitable for attaching to the V-brakes pivots and the top fender hole.

      Thule Tour Rack 100090

We can also recommend the universal carrier Thule Tour Rack 100090, which fits perfectly on scooters without any need for further adjustments.

    • Which car racks are suitable for Yedoo scooters?

For transporting Yedoo scooters, you can use the Thule Pro Ride 598 roof rack, which we have tested and which does not need any additional modifications for transporting scooters.

With minor modifications (adapter) you can also use the Hakr Trip Middle Roller rear rack, which can fit up to 3 scooters and is mounted behind the car on the tow ball.

We have the rack and our designed and tested adapter including the necessary accessories in stock.

You can also order a hook to store the carrier on the garage wall, for example, as well as an attachment that allows you to transport up to four scooters.

Just email info@yedoo.eu and it’s yours.

    • Which child seat is suitable for Yedoo scooters?

For the safe transport of children on a scooter, we recommend the proven Polisport Bilby Junior seat, which is mounted on the front frame tube and is suitable for scooters with front wheels from 16 to 20 inches.

You can order the seat and its assembly at info@yedoo.eu.

    • I want to change tyres on my scooter for the off-road. Which tyres should I choose?

Do you want to turn your road scooter into an off-road special or are you going on an adventure expedition and need a wider trekking tyre that can withstand riding on unpaved roads? Or the other way around?

Then we have a table of minimum and maximum tyre dimensions for selected scooters, which you can use when choosing. Of the tyre brands we have tested .... (can we recommend any brands?)

Attention! Bear in mind that with the change of tyres, the ride height will change, too.

      Yedoo Wolfer RS

      • Minimum width of tyres: 700x25c front and rear
      • Maximum width of tyres: 700x28c front and 28x2.0 rear

      Yedoo Dragstr

      • Minimum width of tyres: 20x1.5 front and rear
      • Maximum width of tyres: 20x2,0 front and rear
    • What tyre brands do we use?

On Yedoo scooters, you will find Continental and Kenda tyres, the higher the scooter range, the higher the quality of the components and of course the tyres. We also use Schwalbe tyres for tuning.

    • Can I buy a separate Yedoo scooter frame?

Yes, you can order separate Yedoo scooter frames from us at info@yedoo.eu.

If you need advice on other things regarding scooter conversion and tuning, contact our experts at Yedoo Garage Prague at garage@yedoo.eu who will attend to you personally.

Note: This service is only available in the Czech Republic.

    • How wide is the footboard on Alloy scooters?

The foot of the Yedoo Alloy scooters has a trapezoidal shape that extends towards the rear wheel. The widest part measures 100 mm (rear) and the narrowest 80 mm (front).

For example, the Yedoo Trexx Disc, which is designed for off-road and downhill riding, has a 10 mm wider footboard than other Yedoo Alloy scooters – 110 mm at the back and 90 mm at the front.

  • MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING
    • How to care for your scooter / How to do basic servicing?

In order for scooters/ balance bikes to be able to bring you joy from riding for a long time, they need a little care and attention. They need regular tightening of bolt connections, checking the condition of quick-release clamps, tire pressure, lubricating of moving parts such as wheel bearings, etc.

We cover this topic in detail in the Basic Maintenance article on our blog.

If you do not have time, basic tools, or perhaps the patience, don’t despair. Basic maintenance and servicing can be done by us at Yedoo Garage Prague, or by colleagues at any bike service shop.

Note: Yedoo Garage service is only available in the Czech Republic.

    • How to store your scooter/ balance bike over the winter

Off season, store scooters and balance bikes indoors in a dry shaded place, do not expose them to increased humidity or extreme temperatures in the long term.

In case of long-term storage, for example over winter, keep tyres sufficiently inflated or hang the scooter/ balance bike up, so that they would not be burdened.

Before the new season, have it checked and serviced, for example at Yedoo Garage Prague or at any bike service shop.

Note: Yedoo Garage service is only available in the Czech Republic.

If you like to do things yourselves, check out the Basic Service.

    • How to treat the inside of the frame against rust?

First, we would like to assure you that a scratched undercarriage or any rust on the surface have no impact on solidity or riding performance of the scooter.

The frames are sufficiently protected against corrosion by phosphating, which takes place before the paint is applied.

However, air moisture or water may get inside the scooter frame. But we took this into account and placed drainage channels inside the frame to allow the water to drain out.

If rust forms inside the frame, it is only surface rust and, as mentioned in the introduction, it does not affect the solidity or riding performance of the scooter.

    • How to treat a scraped scooter chassis?

Aesthetics aside, scratches and scuffs and surface rust are no problem on the chassis. On the contrary, we at Yedoo take them as welcome souvenirs from our travels.

However, if you don’t like the sight of rusting scratches, you can treat the chassis with a corrosion protectant such as Nanoprotech spray, which creates a thin film on the metal surface that repels water and moisture for up to 12 months.

Yedoo Alloy scooters are ready for bumps, the shape of their chassis minimises the contact area with the surface and ensures the scooter is not slowed down on bumps. We write more about the technical advantages of Alloy scooters in the article About the Yedoo Alloy scooters in greater detail.

      Paint repair pencil

If you don’t want to ruin your mood by looking at scratched paint on your frame, we have a solution for you in the form of a paint repair pencil, which is suitable for scratches, dents from flying stones and other small retouches.

Correcting the polish is simple – either with a droplet that you squeeze from the tip of the pencil, or with a fine brush, which is located under the cap. The pencil can be used repeatedly. The clever cap prevents the paint from running and drying out.

The paint pencil, which is available in all Yedoo scooter colours, can be ordered at info@yedoo.eu.

    • How do I inflate tyres for the road and for off road?

When inflating the tyres, follow not only the recommended data, which you will find on the side of every tyre, but take into account the weight of the rider and the type of riding surface as well. In any case always keep within the recommended range.

In general, higher pressure is more suitable for greater weight, asphalt and less experienced riders.

If you are about to go off road, it pays off to lower the pressure in the tyres slightly. Higher pressure reduces adhesion of the tyre to the surface of the terrain and the scooter becomes more difficult to control.

Underinflated tyres, on the other hand, bring a greater risk of defect and worse manoeuvrability.

    • How to mount a scooter, fenders, stand, etc.

Whether you need help with mounting a kickstand, fenders, or the basic assembly of a scooter or balance bike – you can do it like a pro with our video tutorials.

The tutorials are simple, easy to understand and you can find them all on our YouTube channel.

    • How to change the height of the footboard on Yedoo scooters?

We have spent a long time fine-tuning the footboard height for each model. Our goal was to design a footboard that would have the lowest possible tread height and at the same time the highest possible ground clearance – so that you can easily manage the journey not only on the road, but also on field and forest paths.

Changing the height of the footboard is suitable if you are going for really wild off-road conditions or adrenaline-fuelled descents. Together with the greater height of the footboard, the strain of riding and pushing-off increases, as you will have to go deeper into the squat.

That is why we recommend that you learn how to read the terrain and cleverly avoid uneven ground before you start raising the height of your footboard. You can find out how to do this in our article on How to choose a scooter for adults in the paragraph called Tread height.

How to change the height of the footboard?

To raise the footboard height, move the rear wheel into the lower holder of the rear fork and then re-adjust the brakes. A detailed video tutorial can be found here.

      Attention:

Changing the footboard height on the Yedoo Trexx Disc scooter requires replacing the brake discs and brake caliper adapters with larger ones (You will need a Tektro A3 adapter at the back and possibly (mainly for looks) a Tektro A7 at the front and new 203mm discs.) Replacement is not a simple and cheap matter, so we recommend not to change the height of the footboard, because even in the basic setting it can handle most terrains.

    • What is the best way to put the scooter into the car?
      • If you have a free seat in the car and can fold down the back seat, it’s easy: Just loosen the handlebar with a hex key, turn it so that it is parallel to the scooter, and then you can easily fold it “flat” into the car.
      • Another option is to remove the front wheel – this is done by first releasing the brake cable from the flexi-hose and loosening the brake arms. Then release the quick-release levers and remove the wheel.

When reassembling the wheel, reverse the procedure:

      • But before doing so, make sure the fork is in the correct position – the V-brake arms and wheel grips are pointing forwards.
      • You then insert the wheel into the fork so that the tyre pattern faces forwards in the direction of travel. Some tyres have a directional arrow on the side of the tyre. Check it out.
      • Make sure the wheel is exactly in the middle and then tighten the quick-release clamp. There should be a noticeable resistance just before the quick-release lever closes. If you can’t feel it, turn the quick-release lever nut several times before closing the lever. Close it so that it does not touch the fork and cannot open accidentally while riding.
      • Finally, return the brake cable to the flexi-hose, check the brake function and then you are ready for adventure. Yedoo!

You can also find out how to do this in the video tutorial How to assemble Yedoo scooters.

For larger scooters with front wheels from 26 inches, we recommend a roof rack on the car roof or a rear rack on the tow ball.

More about racks and their modifications for transporting scooters can be found in the following question.

    • What to do if the brakes squeal?

Squealing can be caused by many reasons. The most common reason is dirty or greasy brakes. Therefore, it is recommended to degrease the brake pads and rims with technical petrol or wash them with water and dish detergent.

  • ABOUT YEDOO
    • Where are Yedoo scooters manufactured?

We are a group of scooter enthusiasts who have been involved with scooters since 1998. At first, we only played in the garage, and after hours of cutting and welding we built a scooter, which we rode the same day for a twenty-four-hour race.

Now, when someone wants to ride a top race on a scooter, he will receive a machine from us that will help him win.

Due to the fact that we actively ride scooters ourselves, we know the needs of the rider and we know how to make the wheels turn smoothly, the frame strong and flexible at the same time, so that your legs do not hurt and riding the scooters is as safe as possible.

We design scooters and balance bikes in the Czech Republic in cooperation with leading industrial and graphic designers. The production itself takes place in China, where we have a reliable manufacturing partner. We regularly visit the production and check it carefully.

With the utmost dedication, professionalism and love we deal with every smallest detail.

Our goal is for everyone to enjoy the ride, adults and children alike - in the city, along the river, while walking the dog, on the way to the playground, on the way to school and on the race tracks.

For more information about us and our mission, please visit the section About Yedoo.

    • How to read Yedoo and what does it mean?

Yedoo reads [yeah-do]. We chose the joyful exclamation in Czech language that automatically escapes one’s lips upon first push-off as the name of our brand. We then phonetically transcribed the Czech word “jedu” (“I am riding!”) into more global English.

You, too, have helped us to sharpen our essence into an easily understandable slogan. See how Road to Joy was created.
