Have you ever encountered a bunch of children, teenagers or adults rushing through the town on this unconventional means of transport? You will probably answer affirmatively to the first or second example; but you may not remember any adult riding a scooter. Yet the number of adult fans of this sport and fun has been growing considerably over the past years.
Those of us who live for this sport are more observant and every oncoming rider is “our buddy”. Little by little, more adult scooter riders of all types can be seen, including elderly people and mums with babies, apart from younger riders.
Bikes are usually used for a higher travel speed at longer distances. But a scooter with high-quality bearings and well inflated tires can be favourably compared to a bike as far as speed in town traffic – riders in Pilsen tried it personally. And if bad weather hits you, you will usually be tolerated in public transportation.
The advantage of scooter-riding in town traffic lies in its usually smaller size and absence of pedals, thanks to which you can easily go around both living and lifeless obstacles. Also the low positioned footboard will contribute to your safety; you will appreciate it whenever you have to jump off the scooter because of heavy traffic or imminent collision.
And if you do not have where to store your scooter, you will appreciate its practical size and low weight e.g. when travelling by elevator or storing it on the balcony.
An extra bonus consists in the favourable purchase price and low maintenance demands. The following general rule applies here - the less parts, the less problems. The only thing to be done by you (and we highly recommend it) is the pre-season servicing and check-up of the tire pressure. Good-quality air-pump or pump at any petrol station will help you with that. After this, nothing should stop you from a satisfying and carefree ride.
